Newburyport Preservation Award 2014 - Sensitive Addition to a Historic Building

YWCA Family Housing, Newburyport MA

Since 1885 the YWCA has been providing affordable housing for individuals and families in the Newburyport area. Andrew Sidford Architects helped to expand their current housing complex, gain approvals from the Historical Commission, Zoning Board of Approvals, and win the support of the neighborhood. The final design resulted in doubling the size of the existing residence to provide ten new and renovated units.

Historic Preservation Award, Newburyport, MA 2001

An original Colonial house was remodeled to accommodate a modern extended family. While a daughter and her young family moved back into the original house, the grandmother moved into a new one-story addition. The addition was designed to include spaces and stairs which would be used by both sides, allowing greater flexibility.

This project received an Architectural Preservation Award for its contribution to an existing historic neighborhood.
